It ALL starts with education!
I am a husband, proud father, veteran, long-time resident of Oxford, Alderman, property owner, businessman, and attorney. I have officially entered the race for District 12 of the Mississippi House of Representatives. My objective is to be a loud, clear, and independent voice for Oxford. I am running to help protect public education, which is clearly under assault in Mississippi.
This decision to run is not part of some grand plan - rather it is a call to action. I hope to take to Jackson the same passion, energy and attention to detail that I have used on the Board of Aldermen over the last two years. I recognize that if I am fortunate enough to win, it would mean surrendering my Alderman seat. I am willing to do so because nothing is more important to our community than our schools. From this foundation spring better jobs, a better economy, and a better community.
Oxford is recognized as one of the best places to live in America and people are moving here every single day. The overriding force driving families here is our great public schools! It ALL starts with education - which is the key component of every successful community and economy.
I believe that almost all of Mississippi's problems can be traced back to the quality of education, or lack thereof. If a child is not reading at grade level by 3rd grade, there is a 90% chance he or she will not graduate. This leads to unemployment, crime, teen pregnancy, incarceration, and a lifetime of government subsistence. In short - It ALL starts with education!
Underfunding schools also directly impacts your pocket book. When the State fails to do its part, your local school district has to raise your taxes to generate enough money to simply provide the basics.
We are at a critical crossroads. Unless something changes in the House, education and our children's future will be in jeopardy. It is time for a strong, independent voice in Jackson. I pledge to always vote for what is right, instead of what is popular or what a party dictates. I humbly ask for your vote in the Primary on August 4, 2015 and on Election Day, November 3, 2015.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my candidacy and the opportunity to introduce myself. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Together we can make a difference for our community and our children. Please let me know what you think, or if you want to help.
